The Knitiot Web Log

Hi, it's me, Juli, the Knitiot.  I want to welcome you
to my website and "blog".  I have started this page
because I want to share my favorite patterns, projects,
and products with my customers and fellow knitiots.

Here I am, to the left, working on something in the studio.  I was photographed by someone from the local paper for an editorial about knitting becoming popular
again.  I decided to put on whatever I could find that I'd knitted.

I am working on adding patterns, and some of my
favorite projects to the blog.
                                                                                                   Happy Knitting!

I realized that there are no photos on the website showing anyone wearing the shirts...so I've added some pictures!

My friend, Ellen in the purl gurl charcoal fashion tee and then knitting wearing the "unwind" fashion tee in kiwi!

Here I am...in the airport, on my way home from the big TNNA Knitting Show!

  Cozy Cell Phone Covers

            Materials: Size 10 Straight Needles
Assorted Worsted Weight Yarns - 1 solid color/1 verigated stripe color
(Knit with both strands of yarn...I used one strand of Noro Kuryeon and one strand of solid Cascade 220.
            Darning Needle
            Decorative Button

            Cast on 6 stitches
            Knit 3 rows
4th Row: K3, YO, K3...now you have 7 stitches on the needle and this Yarn Over creates the buttonhole
            Row 5,6,7 Knit
Row 8: K1, Increase 1 in next stitch by knitting into front of back of 2nd stitch, Knit across row to the last 2
stitches, increase in first stich and then k1.
Now you have 9 stitches on needle.
            Row 9: Knit
Row 10: Repeat Row 8 by increasing in the 2nd stitch of the row and the 2nd to the last one.
Now you have 11 stitches...this should be enough for most cell phone widths; however, if you are knitting
a case for a Blackberry or a Treo Phone, you may want to make the case a little wider.  Do this by
knitting Row 11, then for Row 12, increase as before to have 13 stitches on the needle.

Basically you will just knit until your case is long enough to fold
in half and cover your phone.  I just keep "fitting" my phone in the fold to test.  The flap will cover the top.
I sew the sides up just using a basic side to side stitch, it doesn't have to be that neat, but it needs to be
consistent and tight so that when you turn the case inside out it will be strong.

the Ruffled Scarf
www.mistialpaca.com

If you don't know about this pattern, then you should.  It is a really pretty and it takes with just one skein of bulky alpaca yarn.  I made 6 of these in a couple of weeks. The pattern is "free" on The Misty Alpaca website, link above.
I have used the Misty Alpaca brand as well as the Plymouth Brand "Baby Alpaca Grande"...both yarns will work well to make this fun scarf.  It is not real long, but it looks good just wrapped once around the neck...here are the ones that I made this year to give away: camel, ivory, lime green, powder blue, periwinkle, and coral.

  juli’s Snake Scarf

  Supplies:

   #15 needles

   Random leftover yarns

   Pom Pom Maker (or cardboard)

Cast on 12-15 stitches depending on how wide you want the scarf…the one shown has 12 stitches and is about 4" wide.

Row 1 – Knit across

Row 2 – Purl across

Repeat these 2 rows to make the color block…you can make each section as long as you like.  Basically you will just do
the stockinette stitch while changing yarns when
you feel like the square or rectangle is long enough.

*Don’t panic…this scarf will curl on the edges to make it look like a snake or tube!

Choose colors you like, sometimes I like to throw in a random color that doesn’t actually match the other colors!

If a yarn is too skinny to look thick enough, then put 2 yarns together and knit with both strands.

Make the scarf as long as you like…then bind off stitches. Add pompoms or fringe...
I used the largest ring in the Clover Pom Pom  Kit.

gift Ideas...

Our crazy "KNIT AT NITE" nightshirt is a great gift...just add a pair of those new wild "light up needles"
and you have a very unique and fun gift! Most local yarn shops (LYS) have these needles.

When I saw this jigsaw puzzle at my local camera shop...I just had to buy a few for
my knitting friends.  I decided to add them to my website to sell...they make a great gift, that is
if you can get the knitter to put down their needles in order to work the puzzle.
